After a hiatus of four years, the 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition roared back to life, captivating global attention as it commenced in Beijing on Thursday.

Showcasing the latest in automotive innovation, the event underscores China’s dominance in the electric vehicle (EV) market and its unwavering commitment to automotive excellence.

With 117 auto models making their global debut, including 30 from international brands, this year’s exhibition promises a glimpse into the future of the automotive industry. Notably, 278 new energy vehicles (NEVS) are set to be unveiled, surpassing last year’s count by seven, according to organisers.

The resurgence of the exhibition comes amidst a significant milestone in China’s automotive landscape, with NEVS accounting for over 50 per cent of car sales in early

April, as per data from auto associations.

This surge in NEV sales has been fuelled by a competitive pricing landscape, prompting automakers to introduce newer, more affordable models and enticing promotions.

In the midst of this electrifying atmosphere, Chery Automobile, a leading Chinese automaker, stole the spotlight with its captivating showcase of the Tiggo family.

Under the theme “New Energy, New Eco, New Era,” Chery unveiled its latest advancements in the field of new energy vehicles.

The highlight of Chery’s showcase was the global premiere of the Tiggo 9 PHEV, positioned as the flagship model in the Tiggo family. With a design inspired by the concepts of “Conquer” and “Guard,” the Tiggo 9 PHEV embodies a blend of distinctive aesthetics and cutting-edge technology.

The Tiggo’s journey began in 2005 with the introduction of its first SUV, the Tiggo NCV.

Over the past two decades, the Tiggo Series has garnered global acclaim for its quality, performance, and stylish design.

At the exhibition, Zhu Shaodong, CEO of CHERY

International BG, reflected on the brand’s evolution and emphasised its commitment to innovation. Equipped with a 2.0T highperformance engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission, the Tiggo 9 PHEV delivers a maximum power of 175 kw and peak torque of 385 Nm.

Its exterior, characterised by an octagonal grille and dynamic body lines, exudes a sense of power and exploration, while the interior offers a warm, secure, and tech-savvy space for passengers.

“The Tiggo 9 PHEV is yet another outstanding creation from Chery in new energy fields. It not only elevates design aesthetics but, crucially, addresses key concerns like range and efficiency for users.

This model sets a new standard for PHEV models, thanks to its advanced power technology and precise understanding of user needs,” an auto expert said.

In Oman, Chery vehicles are distributed by Saud Bahwan Group.
