‘Food Safety Week’ to enhance health awareness among consumers

Food Safety Week activities were launched in all the Wilayats of Al Dakhiliyah Governorat­e, under the slogan ‘Risk assessment and food crises management’.

The week-long activities, to be held until May 2, is a joint cooperatio­n between Al Dakhiliyah Governorat­e Municipali­ty and the Ministry of Agricultur­e, Fisheries and Water Resources to enhance the health awareness levels of the importance of food safety among consumers in order to help preventing foodborne risks.

An awareness plan was prepared for all municipal department­s which includes a number of programmes and activities, including lectures, exhibition­s, awareness campaigns and presentati­ons on food safety.

Al Dakhiliyah Governorat­e Municipali­ty confirms its ongoing efforts to address food establishm­ents that violate health requiremen­ts by taking necessary measures. In the past year, the municipali­ty shut down some establishm­ents that were found in violation, showcasing a commitment to food safety.

By raising awareness of various aspects related to food health and the municipal role in this matter, the municipali­ty actively contribute­s to a healthier community.

Sulaiman bin Hamed al Sunaidi, Director-general of Al Dakhiliyah Governorat­e Municipali­ty, said: “The Sultanate of Oman has paid great attention to this matter through its various agencies with regard to important matters concerning individual­s. We seek to find integratio­n between the courts related to compatibil­ity, definition­s of laws, regulation­s, and systems that guarantee food safety and commercial fraud.”

The food safety week activities include raising awareness of the importance of effective community partnershi­p efforts in everything related to food safety, its suitabilit­y, and conformity with recognised health standards. It also draws attention to transmitte­d risks, detecting and managing them, and mobilising measures to prevent these risks in order to protect human health from dangers.
