‘Food Safety Week’ to enhance health awareness among consumers

Food Safety Week activities were launched in all the Wilayats of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, under the slogan ‘Risk assessment and food crises management’.
The week-long activities, to be held until May 2, is a joint cooperation between Al Dakhiliyah Governorate Municipality and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources to enhance the health awareness levels of the importance of food safety among consumers in order to help preventing foodborne risks.
An awareness plan was prepared for all municipal departments which includes a number of programmes and activities, including lectures, exhibitions, awareness campaigns and presentations on food safety.

Al Dakhiliyah Governorate Municipality confirms its ongoing efforts to address food establishments that violate health requirements by taking necessary measures. In the past year, the municipality shut down some establishments that were found in violation, showcasing a commitment to food safety.
By raising awareness of various aspects related to food health and the municipal role in this matter, the municipality actively contributes to a healthier community.
Sulaiman bin Hamed al Sunaidi, Director-general of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate Municipality, said: “The Sultanate of Oman has paid great attention to this matter through its various agencies with regard to important matters concerning individuals. We seek to find integration between the courts related to compatibility, definitions of laws, regulations, and systems that guarantee food safety and commercial fraud.”
The food safety week activities include raising awareness of the importance of effective community partnership efforts in everything related to food safety, its suitability, and conformity with recognised health standards. It also draws attention to transmitted risks, detecting and managing them, and mobilising measures to prevent these risks in order to protect human health from dangers.
