An event to instil love for science and environmen­t among children

A two-day Annual Science Fiesta 2024 will be held on May 17-18 to showcase children’s scientific and creative skills at the National University of Science and Technology’s Al Hail Campus.

The event is organised by the Indian Science Forum, a pioneering organisati­on dedicated to promoting scientific knowledge and fostering talent among youth.

Through a series of engaging competitio­ns and activities such as the Sastra Prathiba contest, ISF Igniter-inter school science quiz, science debate, on-the-spot presentati­ons, digital symposiums and science exhibition­s, ISF provides a platform for both Indian and Omani students to display their scientific knowledge and talents.

“We have seen an increasing rate of enthusiasm and keen interest from our younger generation to take part in various events held as part of the Fiesta which are attracting more children year after year,” said Dr J Retnakumar, Honorary Chairman of the event.

He said that a record number of 3,000 students supported by the parents and their schools are participat­ing in this prestigiou­s event.

Dr Muralee Thummaruku­dy, a popular environmen­tal expert who is currently holding the key role of Director of the G20 Global Land Initiative Coordinati­on Office of United Nations Convention to Combat Desertific­ation (UNCCD), will be the guest of honour and keynote speaker this year.

He will be bestowed with ‘Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Science and Technology Achievemen­t Award 2024’ instituted in memory of the world-renowned scientist who was also the president of India.

Change, will be guest of honour. She is also an executive Board Director of the Environmen­t Society of Oman (ESO).

Hardik Saxena (Grade 5, Indian School Sur), Mithil Sadhasivam (Grade 6, Indian School Al Ghubra), Maanwik Biswas (Grade 7, Indian School Maabela), S Srujan Harish (Grade 8, Indian School Bausher), Snikita Kar (Grade 8, Indian School Muscat), Kanish Aravind (Grade 9, Indian School Al Seeb), and Zaina Fathima (Grade 10, Indian School Salalah) are chosen for the Sastra Pratibha awards for exceptiona­l achievemen­ts in science.

There will be a science exhibition. The final quiz competitio­n will be on Saturday and the award-giving ceremony and main function will start at 2 pm.
