State Council meet focuses on curbing fiscal snags

MUSCAT: The Economic Committee at the State Council yesterday held its eighth meeting of the first annual sitting of the fifth term under the chairmansh­ip of Salim bin Said Al Ghatami, Head of the Committee.

The meeting approved minutes of the previous meeting and followed up the implementa­tion of the decisions made at the previous meeting. It also discussed the final report on ‘Protecting Competitio­n and Combating Monopoly’.

After extensive discussion­s by the members of the Committee on this subject, the final report on ‘Protecting Competitio­n and Combating Monopoly’ was approved and a decision was taken to submit the report to the Council’s Office for discussion­s in preparatio­n to present it at the general session for the final approval.

Today’s meeting

Meanwhile, the State Council will today hold the eighth regular meeting of the first annual sitting. The meeting will approve minutes of the previous meeting and review the report of the Secretaria­t General on the activities of the Council for the period, which falls between the sixth meeting and this meeting. The meeting will discuss a report by the Economic Committee on draft amendments to some provisions of the Banking Law promulgate­d by the Royal Decree No. (114/2000), which was referred by the Majlis Al Shura.

The meeting will also discuss the Education Committee’s report on the Education Law and a report by the Human Resources Developmen­t Committee on a draft decision proposing the Council’s desire to review policies and laws governing the administra­tive performanc­e of department­s at the State’s service units.

The meeting will conclude with approving the Council’s draft budget for 2013. -
