ROP, civil defence personnel rescue stranded victims
MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) rescued 23 citizens and residents in the wilayat of Ibri, following a heavy downpour that lashed Ibri on Saturday, said Colonel Salmeen Mohammed Al Harthi, the Dhahirah governorate’s police chief.
More than 186 people have been rescued after inclement weather hit the Sultanate recently. Al Harthi added that everyone rescued by the civil defence personnel and the ROP were in a stable condition, so far.
The overflow of the wadis of Kabir, Hajar, Rafsh, Al Ain, and Sulaif resulted in the blockage of traffic from Ibri to Rustaq, Sohar, Yanqul and Bahla.
The ROP also recovered more than 13 vehicles that had been swept away in the wilayat of Ibri on Saturday. Moreover, the ROP had rescued 12 people who were trapped in Wadi Nafaa’ in the wilayat of Bidbid on Saturday and then transferred them to Samayil Hospital.
The floodwaters from many wadis, including Wadi Al Awq in Sharqiyah, Wadi Bani Awf in Batinah, Wadi Tanuf in Dakhiliyah, and Wadi Kibarah in Dhahirah, had disrupted the flow of traffic for many hours.
Many schools in the wilayat of Saham were evacuated because of the heavy rainfall that had lashed many parts of Saham yesterday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Muscat Electricity Distribution Company has formed a team with a contingency plan in case of any shutdowns or a disruption in the electricity supply due to the heavy rainfall that has drenched the northern parts of the Sultanate.
