REJIMON K reji@timesofoman.com MUSCAT: The shooting of the Malayali film —the first Indian movie to filmed completely in Oman— is progressing at various locations, the line producer said.

“This is for the first time that an Indian movie is being filmed fully in Oman. We have a 38-day schedule of shooting at various locations in Oman, especially at exotic spots in Muscat, Yiti, Muttrah, Barka, Fanja and Sharqiyah Sands,” Mezoon Travels, the line producers of the movie, told Times of Oman.

Scripted by noted writer and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award winner C. V. Balakrishnan and directed by Madhu Kaithapuram, winner of India’s National Film Award, the title of the movie is Velli Vechathil (Silver Light).

“We are receiving an overwhelming response from the nationals. They are helping us a lot. Some have even rented out their villas free of cost for the shoot. Many Omani nationals are also acting in this movie. We will capture the breathtaking beauty of Oman and showcase it globally,” Renny Johnson, executive director at Mezoon Travels, said.

Currently, a 73-member crew is working on the movie in Oman. Indian journalist John Brittas is in the lead role. The other main actors are Raveendran, Lalu Alex, Tini Tom and Iniya.

The movie, being made under the banner of Well Flow Talk- ies, is being produced by Ramesh Nambiar, a Bahrain-based Indian businessman.

“The movie will be featuring the life of expatriates and Omanis. It will portray their ups and downs, and happiness and sorrows. But, according to the script writer, the movie will not be a typical ‘nostalgic expatriate’ movie,” Ramesh Nambiar explained.

Meanwhile, the movie director, who has been bowled over by the striking landscapes of Oman, said that Oman has a huge potential for film shooting.

“This is my first film abroad. The last one was also based on Balakrishnan’s script. When I came here for location scouting last month, I was impressed by the landscape of Oman. Now, when I have started filming, I am surprised by the country’s beauty. I have not seen a place like this which gives any director a chance to capture light and shadow,” the director said, adding: “I feel that so far Oman has not been fully showcased in movies by any of the movie makers.”
