Symposium on project management on March 19
Times News Service MUSCAT: PMI-AGC, Oman will be holding its first project management office symposium ‘Aspiring Excellence in Project Delivery’ under the patronage of Eng. Sultan bin Hamdoon Al Harthy, Adviser at the Secretariat-General of the Supreme Council for Planning on March 19-20 at the Golden Tulip Hotel.
The event, sponsored by Haya Water, Takatuf, ESI International, Omran and Daleel Petroleum, offers individuals and organisations an opportunity to learn about project management best practices and project management office (PMO) challenges, planning and implementation. Industry experts are enjoined to participate in this event. PMI Oman have invited speakers from various industries to share their knowledge of PMO, the challenges they face and the solutions they have undertaken to streamline their processes.
“In view of the projects going on in Oman, PMI Oman sees this event as very timely to help PMI members achieves maximum efficiency in their projects,” said Mohammed Al Ghanboosi, president of PMI-AGC Oman Region. “Several reputed organisations around the globe set up PMO as centre of excellence to ensure that best project management standards and best practices are adhered to.”
The symposium also provides a venue for members to exchange in- sights with their peers and to grow their network.
Speakers are having long experience in practicing project management in projects and countries across the globe; Alfonso Bucero PMI Fellow from Spain is an author of multiple books and he is an international speaker, Frederic Casagrande, PMO expert and vice president for the PMO Community of Practice and currently based in UAE; Saadi Adra is an industry expert in PMO Capacity building based in Lebanon; and Tarik Al Hraki a professional process designer at the PMO Office at Ajman University of Science and Technology.
Project Management Institute (PMI) founded in 1969 is a non-profitable public institute, involved in the art and science of project management, headquartered in USA and comprises more than half-million members in more than 180 countries around the world. In 1992, PMI Arabian Gulf Chapter was formed. The Arabian Chapter has 4,000 members from Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman.
There are about 125 PMI members in Sultanate of Oman from different disciplines and 50 of them are PMP certificate holders.
These figures have seen a steady increase over the past years due to the increased awareness of professionalism in project management and increasing demand in the local professional market.
