Galfar continues to focus on growth of Omani staff
MUSCAT: For over two decades, Galfar Engineering and Contracting has made unprecedented progress in Omanisation, wooing candidates from college and university graduates to contribute to the development and advancement of the company’s operations in the construction sector, be it the oil and gas, roads and bridges, or in other related activities and operations initiated by the company.
Today, Galfar is one of the largest employers of Omani nationals (more than 5,000) in all facets of its operations, says a press release.
Engineer Rashid bin Abdullah Al Mukhaini embarked on his career as processing and maintenance engineer in December 2008, and since then has worked his way forward in various sectors. In the post of ‘Initial Operation Engineer’, in the ‘ Harweel Project for oil and gas isolation’, a prominent project in oil and gas sector, Rashid was involved with a professional team of engineers and actively participated in technical operations of the project and exhibited relentless desire to upgrade his abilities and hone his technical skills.
Eng. Rashid Mukhaini utilised the opportunity provided to him to remarkably improve his level of performance in execution of large projects. He thus proved to be one of the most dependable en- gineers in processing and executing the operational and technical systems in order to achieve the necessary quality that Galfar is known for.
Moreover, Eng. Rashid had the opportunity to work with leading companies in the field of oil and gas, such as PDO and Petrofac, where he gained substantial knowledge and expertise from experienced engineers who helped him in developing his performance. Eng. Abdullah also adds that his work along with engineers from different nationalities and cultures helped him and would further encourage him to continually build greater confidence to perform even better.
He remains positive regarding Galfar’s optimistic stance in the processes, training and qualifications of its employees and new recruits integrating and encouraging and preparing Omani engineers as leaders and managers for larger projects in the future. That clearly highlights the importance of having confidence in the Omani cadre as its main objective, which remains embedded in the minds of Galfar’s top management.
He also feels the importance, which Galfar emphasises, of the areas of general health and safety where the company adheres to strict guidelines and rules. Regular meetings and initiations are held seeking full employee participation and involvement especially for those working at sites to educate and promote awareness on health and safety issues and procedures that will induce safe and comfortable work environment, free of accidents and health hazards.
Undeniably then, the development of the Omani staff is of foremost importance and is an essential factor in the process of education, training and Omanisation — an inevitable target to achieve, and to ensure that young Omanis reach the level of senior management, purely by merit of expertise acquired.
Towards this single-minded objective, Galfar leaves no stone unturned and spares no effort to enable the Omani cadre to reach the appropriate position in the company.
