Local talent to the fore during weekend action

In the fourth round of Oman Karting 6-Hour Endurance Challenge at ‘Muscat Speedway’, Team Motor Sport Solution took top honours

MUSCAT: The Oman Automobile Associatio­n (OAA) organised the 4th round of the Oman Karting 6-Hour Endurance Challenge with the participat­ion of seven teams on Thursday. The following day, 19 drivers from the Sultanate and four from abroad participat­ed in the 4th round of the Oman Auto X Championsh­ip.

In the fourth round of Oman Karting 6-Hour Endurance Challenge at “Muscat Speedway”, Team Motor Sport Solution took top honours covering 363 laps in a total time of six hours and 36.791 seconds (06:00:36.791).

Team Al Mutawa’a Merge took second place covering 363 laps in 06:00:38:751 hours, while Team OKT Pro settled for the third place in 06:01:10.561. Team OKT Endurance finished fourth covering 361 laps in 06:01:28.888.

Abdullah Al Rawahi, member of the Motor Sport Solution Team, said: “This is the first time I participat­e in the 6 hours endurance race. I have participat­ed in a 3 hours endurance race two years ago. The race was a long and challengin­g one, especially with teams such as Team Al Mutawa’a Merge, OKT PRO and OKT Endurance coming with great performanc­e.”

Aflah Al Zakwani from the Oman Marshals Team said:”The 6-hour Endurance race was wonderful and interestin­g especially with the wonderful weather during that day. We have started the race with a good ranking and maintained second place for quite some time but luck wasn’t on our side pushing us back to the fifth place.”

Ramiz Al Sharbati, Technical Manager of Team Al Mutawa’a Merge, said:”This is our 5th participat­ion in Karting Endurance Races, which test the abilities and skills of the drivers and teams in general. This type of race is completely different than the regular races that finish in a shorter time.”

Anas wins Auto X honours

In the 4th round of the Oman Auto X Championsh­ip, Anas Al Raisi won the first place. On Seat FR in FWD Modified Class he clocked 01:28.538.

Hammam Al Kindi came in second in 01:34.390 on his VW GTI and Abbas Al Lawati finished third in 01:38.147 on his VW GTI.

In the FWD Stock class, Man- nan Al Rawahi won the first place in 01:30.936 on his Ford Focus ST ahead of Al Harith Al Kindi, who timed 01:36.193 on his 2012 Audi A1. The third place went to Laith Yahya, who timed 01:40.817 on his 2007 Suzuki Swift.

In the RWD Modified class, Bassil Dahham won the first place in 01:28.503 minutes on his Subaru BRZ. Nasser Al Siyabi, who clocked 01:45.598 on his Nissan Altima, took second place while Ali Al Shaihani, who timed 01:51.098 on his Nissan Sylvia, settled for third place.

In the RWD Stock class, Mohammed Al Balushi won the first place in 01:36.330 on his Infiniti G37. Abdullah Al Ghilani timed 01:38.915 on his 2010 Nissan to take second place while Nasser Al Jahdami clocked 01:42.757 on his BMW M3 for third place.

In the AWD Stock class, Dave Andro was first in 01:29.150 on his Porsche Carrera, Wael Al Shaibani second in 01:35.828 on his Mitsubishi Evolution and Ihab Soomar third in 01:36.502 on his Mitsubishi Evolution.

In the AWD Modified class, Lebanese champion Alain Nawfal took the top prize in time of 01:18.835 on his Mitsubishi Evolution. In the Race class, Spanish driver Toni Alarcon won the first place ahead of Marc Plans.

Oman Karting Challenge

Meanwhile, sixth and seventh rounds of Oman Karting Challenge also saw stiff competitio­n. In the sixth round, Haitham Al Hadeedi won the 270cc class title ahead off Warith Al Kharussi and Qais Al Zubair. In the 390cc, Faisal Al Zubair won the top honours with Waheeb Al Kharussi and Ali Al Moosa settling second and third places respective­ly.

In the second round, Haitham Al Hadeedi won 270cc class title ahead of Qais Al Zubair and Qais Al Anqoodi. In the 390cc class, Faisal Al Zubair finished first and he was followed by Ali Al Moosa and Ismail Al Barwani.
