Oman, Bangladesh officials stress on naval cooperation
The Omani and Bangladesh officers discussed the possibility of bilateral cooperation in naval and maritime fields
Times News Service MUSCAT: Captain Amor Humaid Hamood Al Zakwani, Southern Naval Area Commander of the Sultanate of Oman, visited Bangladesh Navy ships, BNS Ali Haider and BNS Nirmul, at the Salalah Port on May 27.
On arrival of Captain Amor Humaid Al Zakwani, a contingent of the Bangladesh Navy offered him a Guard of Honour. Afterwards, the Omani Naval Commander visited the ships and met with the commanding officers, namely, Captain Anwar Hossain, and Commander Tanzim Farooq.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the possibility of bilateral cooperation in naval and maritime affairs. Captain Anwar Hossain, Commanding Officer of BNS Ali Haider, observed that Bangladesh can learn a lot from the Omani counterparts having a very rich maritime history.
In that regard, Captain Anwar invited the Omani authorities to consider sending young Omani Naval officers for training to Bangladesh and vice versa. Bangladesh will send its navy officials to Oman. Captain Amor Humaid welcomed the idea of exchange of naval officials, and encouraged diplomatic channels to pursue it. Earlier in the day, two commanding officers of Bangladesh Navy paid a courtesy visit to the nearby Omani Southern Naval Area Office and met with the Commanding Officer, Captain Amor Humaid Al Zakwani.
