Local talents join Vale

SOHAR: Vale in Oman has welcomed 73 young Omanis from the local communitie­s of North Al Batinah to join its Pelletisin­g Plant and Distributi­on Centre in Liwa, after completing a twoyear training and developmen­t programme with the company.

Under the patronage of Mohammed bin Ali bin Sanad Al Maamari, Assistant Director General of the Ministry of Manpower in Sohar, a special graduation ceremony was held to mark the fourth batch of trainees’ first steps towards building a solid foundation for a promising career at Vale, says a press release.

Sergio Espeschit, Vale in Oman’s Chief Executive Officer said, “Human capital is what makes an economy thrive, and therefore our business strategy is to establish a highly-trained and profession­al local workforce in Oman. Through a specialise­d training programme, we transferre­d our 70-years’ worth of knowledge in the industry and retained local talent from various educationa­l background­s to help us build this legacy.”

Vale invests in capacity building as part of its shared vision with the nation for a future-ready workforce. Strongly advocating talent generation across its business, the company uses its extensive global experience to implement programs that educate and build leaders. On-the-job training is also offered both in Oman and abroad for employees to gain firsthand-experience and learn from their peers at different sites around the world.

In collaborat­ion with the Ministry of Manpower in Sohar and Jusoor, the training programme required participan­ts to complete a year of theoretica­l and practical courses designed to develop technical, profession­al and social skills. This included General and Technical English, HSE, Basic Math, Interperso­nal Skills and Basic Informatio­n Technology, followed by a year of on-the-job training for a firsthand insight into Vale’s various department­s from maintenanc­e and operations to the laboratory.
