Local talents join Vale
SOHAR: Vale in Oman has welcomed 73 young Omanis from the local communities of North Al Batinah to join its Pelletising Plant and Distribution Centre in Liwa, after completing a twoyear training and development programme with the company.
Under the patronage of Mohammed bin Ali bin Sanad Al Maamari, Assistant Director General of the Ministry of Manpower in Sohar, a special graduation ceremony was held to mark the fourth batch of trainees’ first steps towards building a solid foundation for a promising career at Vale, says a press release.
Sergio Espeschit, Vale in Oman’s Chief Executive Officer said, “Human capital is what makes an economy thrive, and therefore our business strategy is to establish a highly-trained and professional local workforce in Oman. Through a specialised training programme, we transferred our 70-years’ worth of knowledge in the industry and retained local talent from various educational backgrounds to help us build this legacy.”
Vale invests in capacity building as part of its shared vision with the nation for a future-ready workforce. Strongly advocating talent generation across its business, the company uses its extensive global experience to implement programs that educate and build leaders. On-the-job training is also offered both in Oman and abroad for employees to gain firsthand-experience and learn from their peers at different sites around the world.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower in Sohar and Jusoor, the training programme required participants to complete a year of theoretical and practical courses designed to develop technical, professional and social skills. This included General and Technical English, HSE, Basic Math, Interpersonal Skills and Basic Information Technology, followed by a year of on-the-job training for a firsthand insight into Vale’s various departments from maintenance and operations to the laboratory.
