MUSCAT: BP’s Khazzan project is making great progress and will benefit Oman significantly when gas begins to flow by the end of 2017, said the undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas.

Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi made the comments after a visit to BP Oman’s Khazzan field recently to review the progress of the project as BP prepares to deliver first gas in 2017.

The official was accompanied by Yousuf Al Ojaili, president of BP Oman, and a number of senior delegates from the Ministry of Oil and Gas, the Ministry of Finance and Oman Oil.

“Over 45 per cent of project and infrastructure works have been completed at Khazzan so far, and there are seven drilling rigs in the field, with 12 wells already having been drilled. We continue to invest significantly in Oman despite the lower oil price,” said the president of BP Oman.

The undersecretary and the delegates visited a number of areas on the site including an operating Omani Abraaj rig.

The visitors also toured the emerging Central Gas Processing Facility area.

The Khazzan project is expected to increase Oman’s supply of natural gas by a third, with one billion cubic feet of natural gas due to flow from the site every day. The full field development of the Khazzan project will involve a drilling programme of around 300 wells over 15 years.
