Malayalam Wing to honour notable writer
MUSCAT: Indian Social Club Malayalam Wing will honour notable Malayalam writer and novelist Subhash Chandran with the prestigious ‘Pravasa Kairali Literary Award’.
Malayalam Wing honours eminent personalities from literary field every year with Literary Award. The recipients of this prestigious award in previous years were — Perumpadam Sreedharan, Artist Nampoothiri, M. V. Devan, Vishnu Narayanan Nampoothiri, Sethu, C. Radhakrishnan, Zacharia, N. S. Madhavan, Akbar Kakkattil, Punathil Kunjabdullah, Alankode Leelakrishnan, Kalpatta Narayan, etc, says a press release.
Selection of Subhash Chandran for this award this year was unanimous and the award will be conferred upon him for his debut novel Manushyanu Oru Aamukham. This novel was pub- lished in 2010 and it won various awards viz. Kerala Sahitya Academy Award (2011), Oodakkuzhal Award (2011), Fokana Award (2012) Kendra Saahitya Academy Award (2014), Vayalar Award 2015, etc. Subhash Chandran is the only writer who won Kerala Sahitya Academy Award for both his debut story collection and debut novel. Apart from this, he was honoured with many other awards and accolades by various organisations.
The award will be bestowed upon Subhash by G. K. Karnavar, convener of the Wing, during their Keralolsavam Celebrations and Sahitya Sammelan scheduled to be held at ISC Multipurpose Hall, Darsait, on November 6 and 7 respectively.
Subhash will lead a Sahithya Charcha on November 7 on a selected subject in which special invitees in the literary field from Gulf countries will be taking part. Malayalam Wing welcomes all like-minded people in literary field to actively participate in the Sahitya Charcha.
Another highlight of the event is that a team from Kerala Kalamandalam will be entertaining the audience with Chakkyar Kooth, a unique traditional art form from Kerala. The programme will start at 6:30pm on November 6 and the entry is open to all art lovers in Oman.
