Bank Sohar supports traditional Khaboura Shooting Competition
MUSCAT: In line with its commitment to support authentic Omani culture and traditions, Bank Sohar recently sponsored the ‘Al Khaboura Shooting Competition’ for the third consecutive year.
The bank’s support for the tournament, which took place in the village of Al Qasf, was part of its contribution towards the preservation of its heritage, culture and sport, says a press release.
The competition was organised by the Al Khaboura Shooting Team, a part of the Al Khaboura sports club, recently under the patronage of Sheikh Khalid bin Omar Al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service. Representing Bank Sohar at the event were Rashid Saif Al Maskry, District Manager for the Batinah Region, and Ibrahim bin Abdullah Al Balushi, Acting Senior Manager of Al Khaboura branch.
Commenting on the bank’s sponsorship of the event, Khamis Masoud Al Rahbi, Sr. AGM of Branches and Retail Sales at Bank Sohar said, “The traditional sport of shooting has always been one of the popular sports in the Sultanate. This competition has always drawn large crowds together with some of the biggest names in the sport in the Sultanate.
“With such a dedicated following and strong foundation, we are sure the tradition of this country will remain strong for generations to come. Supporting such events is also in line with our vision of preserving the culture and traditions of the Sultanate.
"It is also because of our continued sponsorship of such events that we are considered to be amongst the leading Banks with regards to supporting traditional and cultural events in the Sultanate.”
The contest was attended by over 270 participants from various regions of the country and was split into two categories; an Individuals Competition on a fixed target using traditional weapons called ‘Al Saktoon’, and a Team Competition for clay target shooting. The event was also host to a poetry recital followed by impressive traditional singing by local groups.
The event concluded with Al Marhoon presenting awards to the winners of each of the two categories. Taking first place in team competition and individuals competition were the Bin Said Team from Al Khaboura and Hussain bin Ali Al Hatmi from the Wilayat of Al Rustaq respectively.
The chief guest also honoured the government and private institutions and committees that contributed towards the success of the competition.
“On behalf of Bank Sohar, I would also like to congratulate each of the winners and hope that their success inspires the younger generation to take part in future competitions and keep the tradition alive,” concluded Al Rahbi.
