Haya Water bags coveted international certifications
MUSCAT: Oman Wastewater Services Company (Haya Water) celebrated recently the event of obtaining an international certificate for the management of occupational health and safety (OHSAS 18001) and an international certificate for environmental management (ISO 14001).
The company achieved these certificates after a year of internal evaluation and follow-up as well as the assessment of the international certifying body. This organisation applauded, in its report, the company’s efforts to fully comply with the highest standards of protecting the environment and maintaining the safety and occupational health of its employees, consultants, contractors, visitors and clients, as well as to provide a safe working environment, says a press release.
The ceremony was held in Bait Haya under the auspices of Eng. Hussein bin Hassan AbdulHussain, CEO of Haya Water, who talked about the pride of Haya Water on this important achievement and said: “The importance of obtaining international certificate for the management of occupational health and safety (OHSAS 18001) is to raise the level of awareness on occupational health and safety in the company and for all its associates, and to improve the operational processes to ensure the safety of its workers, and to permanently adhere by the rules and regulations of occupational health and safety.
“It also contributes to identifying and assessing the risks and working to reduce them, as well as responding to emergencies and reducing the number of accidents. On the other hand, obtaining an international certificate on environmental management (ISO 14001) fulfils the company’s message to improve the environmental level through the application of international standards for environmental management through controlling and managing all its activities that consume energy and natural resource, minimising waste and reducing pollution and raise environmental awareness among all its employees and contractors. In addition, this certificate ensures that the company complies with the environmental rules and regulations of the Sultanate of Oman.”
AbdulHussain added: “This achievement is an international recognition for Haya Water on its continuous pursuant to reach excellence by accomplishing its objectives and reaching its ultimate goal to make Oman greener and healthier through improving the environmental and health levels of all citizens and residents and making Oman a pioneer and one of the leading countries in field of wastewater treatment.”
Sultan bin Rashid Al Marhoobi, Quality Systems and Standards Manager, confirmed that the company has made a considerable progress in the fields of management, quality and occupational and environmental health and safety. Obtaining these certificates is, yet, an addition to the other international certificates that the company previously received such as ISO 9001 for quality system and ISO 17025 on general requirements for quality of testing and calibration laboratories. These international recognitions impose great challenges on the company to maintain the achievements and to permanently work on developing plans and promote efforts during the coming period which requires additional efforts from all employees.
