MUSCAT: An International Food Fair (IFF) was organised by Dar Al Atta’a Association in the InterContinental Hotel gardens on February 20.

The IFF aimed to raise money to fund partial scholarships to underprivileged college/university students that are enrolled in the association’s Student Care Programme.

Dar Al Atta’a sought to give a global unity feeling to the event where 14 embassies and residents of different communities in the Sultanate took part in the event through selling traditional food and showcasing crafts and folkloric performances.

In addition to the communities, five bakers and The American International School of Muscat (Taism) set up tables with assorted baked goods in support for the charity and its programmes. Fifty volunteers helped the organisers throughout the event with locations set up, visitors guidance, coupon selling and event gate control.

The IFF had a complete OmaniCorner and children’s play area provided by Titan Events for party supplies and a (Dar Al Atta’a passport) was handed to children on the entrance gate to be stamped by the countries they visit in the event which encouraged the children to know more about the countries and their culture, while serenity clinic had set up an awareness corner in the event.

Raffles were drawn at the end of the event where vouchers of various restaurants and two flight tickets were given as a prizes.

“Let’s popcorn” mainly sponsored the event, while “Al Dhahabi” flour mills were the event golden sponsor and Tunes stood as a Silver sponsor.

“Dar Al Atta’a would like to extend its gratitude to InterContinental Hotel for being their strategic partner and thanked HiFM & Hala FM, City Cinema, Muscat Media Group and Apex Press and Publishing for covering the media of the event and Al Waha water supplies, Pepsi and Enhance for donating water bottles, juices and soft drinks,” a press release said.

The organisers also thanked Jawad Sultan Group and Canary Travel and Tourism for their contribution of tickets to the raffle draw.

Maryam Al Zadjali, Chairperson of the association, said “Dar Al Atta’a expresses thanks to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for making the event possible and the great efforts of the participants of the International Food Fair brought people together in a heartwarming evening. Thank you to the sponsors and volunteers who have dedicated their time and effort to make this event a successful one. The event raised a total amount of OMR7,684, that will be used to cover partial scholarships for eight students. And this motivated us to start planning for the next one which will be held in November 2016.”
