SQU, UK law school to boost relations

MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University and School of Law at the University of Reading are in talks to promote academic ties.

Prof. Susan Carolyn Breau, Head of the School of Law at the University of Reading, UK, visited the College of Law at Sultan Qaboos University today.

She was received by Dr. Rashid Hamed Al Bulushi, Assistant Professor, Khamis Ali Almoharbi, Administra­tive Director, College of Law at SQU and other academicia­ns from the college. The two sides discussed ways to promote academic and research ties between the two institutio­ns.

Research intensive

The School of Law is part of the world-ranked University of Reading, rated among the UK’s most research intensive institutio­ns and one of the UK’s largest, best-known and most successful campus universiti­es.

Prof. Susan Breau invited the faculty members in Law at SQU to collaborat­e with the School of Law at Reading, which offers inclusive, dynamic, and thriving research environmen­t where individual researcher­s are stimulated to undertake significan­t and highqualit­y work.

The academicia­ns from the College of Law at SQU evinced interest to learn from the experience of the School of Law at the University of Reading in pro bono projects and other practical experience­s for law students.

Prof. Susan Breau opined that collaborat­ion with a law school in Oman is very important for her school, considerin­g the importance of Oman as a mediator in resolving the crisis in the Middle East and the Arab region.

She said it is the first time in the world that the Reading School of Law is offering a postgradua­te programme in Global Crisis, Conflict and Disaster Management. Many Omani students are pursing higher studies in law at the School of Law at the University of Reading.
