ISM students honoured

MUSCAT: Eighteen participan­ts of the Duke of Edinburgh Award at Indian School Muscat (ISM) were bestowed with Gold Awards, the highest order of the Internatio­nal Award Scheme, on Sunday.

Principal Srinivas K. Naidu, the Independen­t Operating Authority of the Internatio­nal Award Scheme at ISM was accompanie­d by Deep Wilson, vice-principal, Senior Section, who did the honours during a gathering in the school hall. The scheme required the participan­ts to undergo a series of activities, equipping themselves with life skills that are needed for the wider world.

Under the guidance of the principal and the assisting award leaders, the participan­ts emerged as the proud recipients of this award. They were evaluated at all levels of competency.

Highlighti­ng the significan­ce of such schemes, the principal said that in the society, what matters today is the individual who can sustain and survive with the help of life skills. He encouraged them to be individual­s influencin­g the world.

The Gold awardees are Ayesha Shaheena Peer, Chandini B. Kumar, Feba G. Alexander, Fizaa Luthra, Mitali Sheth, Stuti Kaushik, Susmitha Unnikrishn­an, V. Aarthi, Vrinda S. Reji, Wazina Nizar, Alen Jiji Tom, Elzo Jacob, Farhaan Hasan, Kaushal Raja, Mohd. Faizan, Mohd. Rayaan, Rohit Ramesh and Shridev Cherukat. These awardees underwent rigorous training in academics, various aspects of self-dependency and self-discipline, social service, interactiv­e sessions and visits to places of social and economic significan­ce.

The award programme, aimed to equip the young people for life and work, included three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Participan­ts needed to complete all four sections at each level to achieve their award.

Geeta Chauhan, assistant viceprinci­pal, senior section supervised their journey in associatio­n with the award leaders.
