OFA boss to attend FIFA Extraordin­ary Congress

The Oman Football Associatio­n delegation to Zurich also includes vicechairm­an Saleh Al Farsi

MUSCAT: A two-member Oman Football Associatio­n (OFA) delegation, led by associatio­n chief Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, has left for Zurich to attend the Extraordin­ary FIFA Congress.

According to a statement issued by the OFA on Monday, the OFA delegation includes Saleh Al Farsi, second vice-chairman of the OFA Board of Directors.

“The Extraordin­ary FIFA Con- gress is being held in order to choose the new FIFA President but also has other important items on the agenda. The agenda also includes items such as Reform of FIFA’s Organisati­onal Structure, Proposals to amend FIFA Statutes, Regulation­s governing the applicatio­n of statutes and Stand- ing Orders of Congress.”

“There will also be an election for judicial bodies along with the election for FIFA President,” the statement added. The Congress is scheduled for February 26.

Farewell to Houchen

Meanwhile, the OFA bid fare- well to Jamie Houchen, after he completed his second stint with the OFA.

His first stint was from mid-October to November of 2015 and for the second stint, he returned late in January and completing his tenure with the OFA a few days ago.

Jamie Houchen, who had previously spent 15 years working with the English FA and 10 years with premier league side Norwich City FC, was an expert in Grassroots Developmen­t, and had been appointed after a request from the OFA Technical Director, Jim Selby.

In his time at OHA, he developed grassroots and community football programmes, visited several clubs, conducted courses for grassroots courses.

Jamie also made a telling contributi­on to the launch of community football programmes Laeeb and Laeebah.

“The OFA is grateful to him for his contributi­on to Oman football,” an associatio­n statement said.
