MUSCAT: On Wednesday, Oman LNG celebrated the signing of the recently announced “Gifts to the Nation” project, under the patronage of Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy, Minister of Oil and Gas and Chairman of Oman LNG, at the Ministry of Oil and Gas.

In commemoration of the Sultanate’s 45th National Day last November 2015, Oman LNG announced it was creating a fund for two large projects, entitled ‘Gifts to the Nation’. The first project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD), funds the construction of the first-ever National Centre for Autism, based in Muscat. The Autism Centre will serve the entire Sultanate in supporting issues involving autism. The second project will streamline existing road safety programmes, in a serious attempt to reduce road accidents. The futuristic Road Safety Institute will operate out of Sur, South Sharqiyah, the homeof the Sultanate’s flagship LNG enterprise.

“It is a proud moment for Oman LNG to work with our distinguished partners in excellence, the Ministry of Social Development and the Royal Oman Police (ROP), in efforts to further improve social welfare services and road safety. The initiatives streamline Oman LNG’s contributions to the socio-economic fabric of the Sultanate. This, by itself, is a very noble goal, and both initiatives are a national priority and touch us deeply”, said Dr Rumhy.

During the ceremony, the Oman Autism Society took centre stage, sharing the need for more awareness and support towards the growing concern of autism. In- formation booths in the lobby of the ministry of Oil and Gas providedguests with details and information about autism, ROP, and Oman LNG’s Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.

The two ‘Gift to the Nation’ projects are the outcome of much forethought, accompanied by lengthy analysis and focused studies into social, environmental and health phenomena. After much consultation with stakeholders and expertswhoreviewed the innovations, and sustainability objectives of the ‘Gift to the Nation’, the Oman LNG Board of Directors endorsed the two projects in their final design, and set aside some $15 million.

“The highest honour has been bestowed upon us to contribute with these national gifts to the people of Oman. This is a proud moment, as we witness another horizon reached in fulfilling Oman LNG’s Corporate Social Responsibility goals. Both projects reflect a significant translation of His Majesty the Sultan’s vision towards the improvement of social welfare and the safety of the people,” said, Harib Al Kitani, CEO, Oman LNG.

“Oman LNG’s approach is to continue, through such contributions, to induce strategic partnerships with the Ministry of Social Development,Royal Oman Police and other government bodies, to complement the country’s social welfare, safety facilities and infrastructure to ensure these essential needs are accessible for the entire society. We would like to extend our thanks and appreciations to the Ministry of Social Development and the Royal Oman Police for their support and encouragement throughout this initiative,” he added.
