Event to promote Oman-India trade

MUSCAT: A trade and investment promotion event, with focus on healthcare, food industry, informatio­n technology, mining & mineral and constructi­on & infrastruc­ture sectors, will be organised by the Embassy of India, in associatio­n with Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), on March 30.

The purpose is to provide Indian companies from these sectors a platform to explore opportunit­ies for exports, business tie-ups, investment­s and project work in Oman, says embassy communiqué.

Apex Chambers in India like Confederat­ion of Indian Industry (CII), Federation of Indian Export Organisati­on (FIEO), National Associatio­n of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) and Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) will organise delegation­s of Indian companies to showcase their products and services in these sectors to the Omani business enterprise­s.

A business to business meeting will take place at Hotel Crowne Plaza, Muscat, on March 30 from 9am. Omani enterprise­s dealing in these mentioned sectors are invited to attend the meeting with Indian companies. Sixty Indian firms have indicated their presence.

Further, the embassy will host a seminar for Indian enterprise­s at the embassy’s auditorium to create awareness on the opportunit­ies in Oman for exports, project work and investment­s. Omani corporates in will make presentati­ons to representa­tives of the participat­ing Indian companies.

Bilateral trade between Oman and India, which had grown to $5.77 billion in 2013-14, has been declining in value. It had amounted to $4.18 billion in 2014-15. Mutual investment between Oman and India is estimated at $7.5 billion.

There are over 2,900 Indian enterprise­s in Oman.
