Ford EcoBoost engine delivers great performance with lower fuel bills

MUSCAT: Ford’s technological and engineering prowess is something that is by far one of the most advanced in the automotive world.

Many of them have been introduced across their wide range of products to benefit the ever growing customer base. One of them is the EcoBoost engine which many believe is a wonder from Ford, says a press release.

Ford EcoBoost delivers great performance with lower fuel bills, a recipe that is proving incredibly popular with consumers around the world. EcoBoost engines are attracting new customers to the Ford brand every day.

Ford’s award-winning EcoBoost petrol engine technology combines direct fuel injection, turbocharging and variable valve timing to enable a downsized engine to reduce consumption by up to 20 per cent over larger engines with improved performance. Turbocharging and direct-injection produce a cooler, denser charge that burns more efficiently and cleaner than a conventional engine.

Delivering engines from 1.0-litre to 3.5-litre capacity and in configurations from three-cylinder to six-cylinder globally, Ford holds more than 125 patents on the fuel-efficient EcoBoost en- gine technology available in Ford vehicles around the world.

2009 marked Ford’s public introduction of EcoBoost. In 2014, 90% of Ford vehicles were available with EcoBoost. Globally, the EcoBoost engine family now includes a 1.0-litre three-cylinder, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, and 2.3-litre four-cylinders, and 2.7- and 3.5-litre V-6s.

Ford Motor Company celebrates a manufacturing milestone for its fuel-saving EcoBoost engines. More than five million have been produced globally since the 2009 launch of the engine line. Growing customer demand for EcoBoost-powered vehicles in major markets worldwide is driving engine production higher.

To ensure the highest quality and more reliable engines, Ford engineers studied the warranty history of the outgoing engines and developed testing procedures based on the real-world driving experiences. Big power is great for bragging rights but Ford needed to prove EcoBoost engines were up to the task, long-term, before automobile enthusiasts would embrace this new power plant.

Pushing production engines to the limit is nothing new for Ford. More than 1,000 consecutive extreme temperature loops that quickly bring the engine from minus 25 degrees to 235 degrees Fahrenheit. The engine’s ability to withstand repeated stop/starts was validated with more than 900 test hours simulating 240,000 starts and stops. More than 800 hours of towing and unloadeddriving scenarios across the entire engine power range with gasoline-ethanol mixtures up to E20 and intentionally degraded engine oil.

The EcoBoost engine has won a number of awards since its introduction including the ‘ International Engine of the Year’ for consecutive 3 years in 2012, 2013 and 2014. ‘Sub 1-Litre Engine of the Year’, ‘Best New Engine of the Year’, and more.

In Oman Ford EcoBoost engines are available on Focus, Taurus, Mustang, Escape, F150 and Expedition.
