-

MUSCAT: Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) awarded the tender for the operation of the duty free shops at the passenger terminal at the new Muscat International Airport to Aer Rianta International Middle East (ARIME), one of the biggest duty free shops operator in the Middle East.

The company won the contract after tough competition with several international companies that provided their financial and technical bids to provide these services.

ARIME, the leading company in operating retail shops at international airports and operators of duty free shops in many airports in Europe and the Middle East, will design and operate the 5,200 square metres area allocated for duty free shops, such as outlets for selling perfumes, cosmetics and jewellery. As per the agreement, the operation will be for 10 years.

Sheikh Samer bin Ahmed Al Nabhani, General Manager of Commercial Operations at OAMC affirmed that OAMC is keen on doing everything possible to improve the passenger experience and make it unique when opening the new airport.

He added that the bid submitted by the winning company includes many novel ideas that would promote the marketing plan of the airport.

Muscat International Airport has broken the record in the number of passengers with more than 10 million passengers by the end of 2015.
