Goan Wing celebrates second annual day
MUSCAT: The ISC-Goan wing organised second annual day recently at the Indian Embassy Auditorium, Al Khuwair, which was attended by dignitaries, ISC officials, invitees, and Goan wing members.
The event began with a welcome song in Konkani by children, which was composed by Frank and Savio followed by lighting of the traditional lamp. Anthony Lourenco, Convener of Goan wing welcomed the audience. He said, “With the support and guidance of Dr Satish Nambair, ISC chairman, P. Babu Rajendran, general secretary of ISC and Wing Observer and Antonio Goes, founder convenor and adviser to Goan Wing, we have managed to put up events which have helped us in building the Goan community and creating far more opportunities to socialise and interact with our fellow Goans and the Indian community at large.”
Indra Mani Pandey, Indian Ambassador to Oman was the chief guest. In his address, he appreciated and praised the Goan Wing for their tremendous service towards the community and in organising various events of Indian Social Club Goan Wing.
This was followed by acknowledging and awarding the children who excelled in their Grade X and XII exams namely Sarah D’souza and Diksha Joshi securing 1st and 2nd place in Class X and in Class XII Clef D’souza and Azriel Fernandes securing 1st and 2nd place in Science Stream while Senetra Dias securing the 1st place in Humanities.
It also acknowledged and awarded the following Goans from various fields that have excelled and brought glory and pride to Oman namely Dr Olga Rodrigues Pereira for Medicine, Flynn De Lima for Entrepreneur, Ivor Braganza for Corporate, Dr Mario De Souza for Medical Administrator and Social work and Leila Pereira D’souza for Naturopathy and Social work. Each of recipients of the excellence award was given the shield and shawl.
This was followed by an array of cultural events where children and adults gave impeccable performances through dance, solo songs, and playing musical instruments namely keyboard and violin. There were also solo singing performances by well-known Goan singers Avers Pereira, E. Perry, Scully, Avi Braganza, Irenev Mascaren has who were accompanied on keyboard by Savio D’souza, Sanille and group playing the Goan traditional instrumental Konkani & Portuguese songs with duets sung by kids as well as adults. There was also scintillating youth dance performances by Gayle and group and Ryan and group. Savio and his group performed the traditional Goan mandos & dulpods that left the crowd nostalgic. The glimpse of Goa’s rich culture was captured briefly.
The event ended with Vote of thanks by Islinda Nunes, Co-convener. She thanked Herman Estibeiro, entertainment secretary and other committee members and volunteers for all the efforts put in organising the event in a professional way.
