Best performers felicitate­d in Oman Banking & Finance Awards

MUSCAT: The best performing banks and leasing, insurance and fintech companies were felicitate­d in Oman Banking & Finance Awards 2017, powered by

held at Sheraton Oman Hotel recently.

The event was held alongside the New Age Banking Summit 2017 organised by UMS Conference­s. Hamood Sangour Al Zadjali, executive president of Central Bank of Oman (CBO) and chief guest in the event, presented the awards to the winners.

Overall, 13 awards were presented during the ceremony. Bank Dhofar won the overall Best Bank Award in the large banks category. Ahli Bank was presented with the overall Best Bank Award in the mid size banks category. Among the special awards, Bank Muscat was felicitate­d with the Excellence in People Developmen­t Award; Best Foreign Bank Award was presented to Bank of Beirut; Excellence in SME Developmen­t Award went to Oman Developmen­t Bank and; Excellence in Building National Talent Award was given to College of Banking & Financial Studies. On the leasing side, Oman Orix Leasing Company was presented with Best Leasing Company Award and Al Omaniya Financial Services was felicitate­d with the Best Leasing Company in Asset Quality Award.

National Life & General Insurance Company was presented with Excellence in Insurance Services Award and Takaful Oman Insurance received Excellence in Islamic Insurance Award. On the special awards in technology segment, GBM was felicitate­d with the Best Cognitive & Advance Analytics Innovator Award and the Excellence in Fintech Award was presented to Al Madina Developmen­t & Supply. In addition, Excellence in Corporate Leadership Award was presented to Sayyida Rawan Ahmed Al Said for her outstandin­g contributi­on to the Sultanate’s economic developmen­t and excellent profession­al track-record.

The New Age Banking Summit 2017 also hosted a CEO panel discussion titled ‘Navigating New Horizons Amid Changing Market Dynamics’. The panelists including Abdul Hakeem Omar Al Ojaili, CEO of Bank Dhofar; Sulaiman Al Harthy, deputy CEO – Islamic Banking of Bank Muscat; Khalid Al Kayed, CEO of Bank Nizwa; Maqbool Al Wahaibi, CEO of Oman Data Park and; HumayunKab­ir, director of Kunooz Oman Holding debated on the key challenges and opportunit­y areas for the banking sector in Oman.
