OCA to hold ‘The Chess Fest 2017’ on Friday
The event will be held in partnership with the International Chess Academy who will help Oman Cancer Association (OCA) to raise funds for its Mobile Mammography Unit
MUSCAT: It has been exactly a year since Oman Cancer Association (OCA) inaugurated its iconic fundraiser, The Chess Fest 2017. This year, after a tiring month of preparation and hard work, Oman Cancer Association is back with it yet again. Its flagship event, which will be held on May 26, will be held in the Party Hall, 3rd floor of Oman Avenues Mall.
The event will be held in partnership with the International Chess Academy who will help OCA to raise funds for its Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU). The MMU travels in and out of Oman offering free breast scanning for woman above the age of 40.
The event registrations work on a first come first serve basis. All those interested must contact the organiser, Allen Thomas (96942720) or Gaurav Selvaraj (95820920). Interested participants can also get in touch with the organisers by emailing them on ocachessfest2017@outlook.com.
The Chess Fest generally sees participants of all ages competing with each other to get on the leader board. The prizes are categorised into first, second and third position followed by category prizes for children below the ages of 14, 12 and 10.
“We are planning on closing registrations the minute we cross 150 participants. Last year we realised the demand for Chess in Oman is high,” quoted Gaurav Selvaraj, the event organiser.
“Oman Cancer Association is very grateful to all the sponsors and we are open to more sponsorship. Our aim is to raise as much as we can to support OCA. We also hope that everyone out there will support us and help us make this event a grand success. Support the good cause,” told Allen Thomas, a volunteer with OCA.
Last year, the event saw over 120 participants leaving the organisers shocked. “It was staggering. I expected a mere number of 50 people and on the day turned out double. This year, we are bigger better and organized. We really thank Oman Avenues Mall for offering us the platform to host as well,” told Allen.
