Omantel team to represent Sultanate in World Karting Championship in France

MUSCAT: Omantel, the first provider of integrated telecommunications services in the Sultanate, announced that its Karting team will participate in the finals of the Sodikart World Series (SWS) to be held in France during May 2627, 2017.

Omantel Karting team is the only team representing the Sultanate and the Oman Automobile Association in the World Finals. After scoring wins in different races, the team now ranks among the top ten teams in the world in the global SWS 2017 ranking, and is just 800 points away from first team. The Omantel Karting Team was able to secure its position in the world finals, amongst 40 international teams with a total of 400 participants. As part of the race this year, the organising committee has introduced a voting system to allow the team that achieves the most ‘likes’ on the Sodikart World Series – SWS Facebook page to be promoted 5 places on the starting grid. As the only Omani team participating in the race, Omantel Karting Team is hoping to get as many ‘likes’ as possible on the Facebook page. It would be a great national achievement to have an Omani team amongst the leading international teams in the world.

Recently, the Omantel Karting team secured the first place in the 24-hour Endurance Race in Muscat, and second place in the Nations Category in the 24-hour Endurance Race in Bahrain, behind Bahrain and ahead of Russia.

In the 12-hour Endurance Race, the team took the top spot in Muscat and the second and third place in Ras Al Khaimah.

The team also participated in the 600 Laps Endurance Race in Dubai, UAE amongst other local and Gulf competitors which have helped it improve its performance and rankings.

The team is very pleased and excited to take part and represent Oman in the SWS World Finals. “Participating in this competition is an honour and achievement in its own right. We are excited about the experience the team will gain, more than the fact that we will compete. We are here to learn and we believe the World Finals is an excellent platform for our team to further improve their learnings and apply them in the workplace and their personal lives.”

Omantel karting team was established in 2015 as part of the Omantel Olympics initiative and boasts 16 talented and passionate employees of Omantel.
