Orpic appoints two key executives as general managers
MUSCAT: Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) officially announced the appointment of Alexandre Clar as its general manager and treasurer with immediate effect.
Clar is a French citizen and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters degree in Management and Business Administration.
Speaking on his appointment, Clar said, “Orpic’s impressive integration of refinery and plant operations, and its ambitious growth plans, has cemented Orpic as one of the industry’s most forward- thinking companies—with around 2,600 employees working towards the common goal of an integrated Omani refining and petrochemicals business. I am certainly excited to be a part of this journey and contribute to this common goal.”
Treasury executive
It is worth mentioning that Clar is a seasoned Treasury executive, who has lived in France, the United States and the Netherlands. He most recently served as Treasurer for Europe, Middle-East and Africa for PPG Industries, #1 worldwide coatings manufacturer.
Prior to that, he was Group Treasurer of a private equityowned (Bain Capital) company named SigmaKalon, a European leader in speciality chemicals. Earlier in his career, Clar assumed several roles, including as Head of Group Corporate Funding in Suez/ Gaz-de-France, one of the world leaders in Energy and Power.
Other appointment
Orpic also announced the appointment of P.S. Moorthy as its general manager, Technical Services, with immediate effect.
Moorthy is a Singaporean citizen with Bachelors’ degree in Engineering, who comes with a 35 year-long track record in Petrochemicals, Utilities and Refining, eight years of which were in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. For the past 12 years, Moorthy has been with Shell in several reliability, maintenance and engineering roles. Speaking on his appoint- ment, Moorthy said, “I am excited to join such a progressive and forward thinking organisation and I am confident that together we can work towards making Orpic a leading performer.”
Moorthy was the Engineering Manager of Shell Singapore, which operates a complex of large, integrated assets—with an oil refinery (500 kbpd) that includes a Hydrocracker and a chemical complex that is capable of producing around a 1.2 mtpa of Ethylene.
He was also intensely involved in the commissioning of this Steam Cracker in 2010 when he was the Maintenance Manager for the whole site.
