- Times News Service

MUSCAT: Ministry officials have called for institutions to submit proposals for English language training for Omani students leaving to study abroad.

The Ministry of Higher Education has announced proposals regarding institutions that teach the English language. “The Ministry of Higher Education has an annual programme for external scholarships, in which around 1,600 students holding the General Diploma Certificate with high achievement are selected to attend undergraduate programmes delivered in English at foreign universities.”

Required level

“Most of these universities require an English level of 5.5 in IELTS, or equivalent tests as part of entry requirements into foundation programmes,” the Ministry explained.

According to the Ministry, an average of 1,000 students a year would require training to improve their English proficiency and achieve the required level.

The Ministry of Higher Education plans to start an English language programme for the 2018/2019 academic year, in order to prepare students locally, before their entry into foundation programs abroad. “MoHE therefore invites interested higher educa- tion institutions and language institutions (HEI/LIs) in the Sultanate of Oman to provide their proposals to offer an English language programme in Oman for external scholarship students.”

Guidelines

Guidelines for submission can be found in the Ministry of Higher Education website: www.mohe.gov. om. Proposals must be submitted to the Ministry by August 27th, 2017.
