MUSCAT: Nepal is all set to strengthen its ties with Oman as it intends to send more skilled manpower to work in various sectors, such as health, tourism, fishing, mining, infrastructure and manufacturing.

This was discussed when Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, ambassador of Nepal to the Sultanate of Oman paid a courtesy call on Shaikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdullah Al Bakri, Minister for Manpower in the Sultanate of Oman at the latter’s office on Tuesday.

Thanked

Dhakal also thanked His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the Government of Oman for hosting and providing employment opportunities to a number of Nepalis in Oman.

The ambassador discussed other areas of cooperation where Nepal has semi-skilled and skilled human resources, such as the engineering, health, hospital- ity, tourism sectors, etc. Dhakal queried about the progress in the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for labour.

ILO standard

Congratulating the ambassador on her appointment, Al Bakri explained that the Omani Labour Law is an international ILO standard law that makes no differentiation between Omani and non-Omani labour working in the Sultanate. He also said that female domestic service workers are not covered under Omani Labour Law, but a separate ministerial decree has been issued to regulate issues related to them.

Al Bakri also informed the Nepalese ambassador about the new online services of the Ministry of Manpower, where people can register their grievances online.

He expressed happiness at receiving Dhakal as the first Ambassador of Nepal to the Sultanate of Oman and wished for her tenure to be successful in the Sultanate.
