More than 5,000 expected for 2017 Spartan Race
Scheduled for November 24, the race is open to adventure seekers, with the aim to pit competitors against a series of daunting and adrenalinepumping obstacles
Staff Reporter MUSCAT: More than 5,000 participants are expected to attend the 2017 Spartan Race to be organised on November 24 in Jebel Sifah.
Following the success of last year’s race, Jebel Sifah has brought back the popular XDubai Spartan Race, Omid Hamed, managing director of Spartan Arabia, said.
“Given the immense success, which Oman’s first Spartan Race enjoyed last year, it was only natural that we join hands with Jebel Sifah once again to reunite this highly popular event with a general public that has truly embraced its challenge.”
Taking place on November 24, the race is open to adventure seekers, with the aim to once again pit competitors against a series of daunting and adrenaline-pumping obstacles throughout what has quickly become the world’s fastest growing sport.
The one-of-a-kind race is expected to record a larger number of spectators and competitors throughout the event, with two adult courses and a course for children, the number of participants is set to surge to over 5,000 participants, including 1,000 young Spartan competitors.
The event will feature the Spartan Sprint, a 5+KM race with more than 20 thrilling obstacles and, the Spartan Super where racers that have completed their Spartan Sprint or racers that want to test their self against a tougher race, will be able to do so using their grit and determination, in more than 12 kilometres with over 25 obstacles.
Additionally, young Spartans children will have their specially designed course that will cater to children aged between 4 and 14 years old.

The race is open to disabled athletes and features two finishers with special needs in the recently-held Bahrain event. Jebel Sifah is looking forward to welcoming special needs participants to this year’s edition of the race.
Additionally, the Spartan Race is recognised as a leading teambuilding exercise, offering companies and other units a perfect opportunity to strengthen their teamwork. To encourage greater participation, special discounted corporate rates will be offered to companies signing up more than 10+ employees.
