Sohail and Akash star in Unique Elegant’s big victory over HFP

MUSCAT: Sohail Khan’s strokeful 59 off 29 balls and Akash Kumar’s impressive all-round show helped Unique Elegant register a big win over HFP Cricket Team in a G Division match at Municipali­ty Ground IV in Al Amerat.

Batting first after winning the toss, Unique Elegant piled up a huge total of 206 for five in 20 overs, thanks to elegant knocks of Sohail, Akash (42) and Robin Verghis (28). Their total was also helped by 16 extras which included 11 wides. Mithun bagged four wickets for 32 runs.

Playing without the Omani player and facing a daunting target, HFP folded up for 116 for nine in just 13.5 overs with only Prasobh offering some resistance with a fighting 35.

Maxitech rout Jotun Paints

A superb unbeaten half century by Supriya Mukherjee led Maxitech Internatio­nal to an easy victory over Jotun Paints in a H Division game at Municipali­ty Ground III.

Jotun Paints failed to put a challengin­g total on board and were bowled out for just 109 in 19.5 overs. Penju was the main scorer with 26 runs. Raghunath, Mohan Babu and Mifas claimed two wickets apiece.

Maxitech raced to the target in just 12 overs, scoring 113 for one, thanks to Supriya’s 33-ball 50. Rahul Rajeev remained not out on 32.

Brief scores: Jotun Paints 109 all out in 19.5 overs (Penju 26; Raghunath 2/18, Mohan Babu 2/21, Mifas 2/23) lost to 113 for 1 in 12 overs (Supriya 50, Rahul Rajeev 32; Bijish Kumar 1/23).

PSM beat ISAS in U-19 clash

Pakistan School Muscat (PSM) opened the season’s campaign with a victory against Indian School Al Seeb (ISAS) in a 50-over Under-19 League clash at Ministry of Sports Affairs Ground II in Al Amerat.

Batting first, PSM were bowled out for 132 runs in 35.4 overs but their total was boosted by 15 penalty runs, giving ISAS a target of 147 to win. Muhammed Umair scored 27. Mohammed Sameer bowled well to bag five wickets for just 20 runs in his spell of 7.4 overs.

Mohammed Kaif took two wickets for 10 runs. ISAS bowlers conceded 37 extras including 27 wides and nine no-balls. Indian School Al Seeb found the going tough from the outset and folded up for 126 in 36.3 overs. Only Saud Qureshi showed some resistance with a 42ball 25. Saud Asghar claimed three wickets for 21 runs while Usama Talib took two wickets for 35.
