Six-a-side hockey to mark Dhyan Chand Day celebrations
MUSCAT: Team Coorg Muscat and Friends of Naqvi Group are gearing up to organise the annual Dhyan Chand Day celebrations.
According to a statement issued by the organisers, the main feature of this year’s celebrations is a sixa-side hockey tournament and it will take place at OFA Ground in Al Qurm on September 22.
Team Coorg Muscat and Friends of Naqvi Group, with the support from the Indian Embassy, have been celebrating Dhyan Chand Day commemorating Indian hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand for the past 12 years. The two organisations have also been promoting hockey through other annual events including Republic Day of India Hockey Festival and Independence Day of India Hockey Festival.
This year’s Dhyan Chand Day celebrations will be presided over by popular hockey personality SAS Naqvi, former Oman hockey coach and Technical Adviser of Oman Olympic Committee. D.R. Bijlani, a local businessman, will be the guest of honour.
The six-a-side tournament will see four Team Coorg squads, all named after former India legends, captains and Olymic Games gold medal-winning players, competing for top honours.
The teams are Team Coorg - Dhyan Chand XI, Team Coorg - Kishen Lal XI, Team Coorg - K.D. Singh Babu XI and Team Coorg - Balbir Singh Senior XI.
