MUSCAT: Japanese automaker Subaru Corporation has introduced ‘EyeSight Driver Assist Technology’ in Oman.

Makoto Inoue, general manager, Sales & Marketing Dept. 1, Overseas Sales & Marketing Division 2, Subaru Corporation, Japan, who was on a short visit to Muscat to launch the company’s all-new Subaru XV, spoke to Times of Oman.

The Subaru’s new vehicle also has ‘EyeSight’ system, which is a preventive safety measure. EyeSight sees the problems and initiates action to help avoid troubles. It will also sound an alert and flash a visual warning if there is a danger of collision and will apply the brakes automatically if the driver does not do so.

“The EyeSight system helps stop the vehicle automatically by applying break in case of a hindrance in front of the vehicle,” noted Inoue.

“We have a long history of developing EyeSight system. In 2008, we had introduced the EyeSight system in Japan. This was developed after spending 10 years for research and design.”

“Our core value is the total safety performance of the vehicles. The company assures not only passive safety but also active safety. Thanks to Subaru Global Platform (SGP), we could ensure safety and driving comfort,” added Inoue.

“In the all-new Subaru XV, we have adopted the Subaru Global Platform, which is completely new; also XV will be the first model in Oman with the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology.” Subaru XV is doing well in other markets, after its recent launch, he added.

Inoue said that one of the important and unique features of the new SUV is its symmetrical All Wheel Drive, a technology that helps achieve a low centre of gravity. Subaru vehicles are distinctive, which is a unique advantage for the customers. The stability and the sporty look of the vehicle are other advantages.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (Symmetrical AWD) is a full-time four-wheel drive system developed by Subaru, which consists of a longitudinally mounted boxer engine coupled to a symmetrical drivetrain with equal length half-axles.

The customers will be able to drive like a passenger car, although Subaru XV is a mid-size special utility vehicle (SUV), said Inoue.

Inoue said that his company is now carefully studying the entire Gulf market to find out the most suitable vehicles needed by the potential customers in the region.

Creating awareness among customers about Subaru vehicles is more important for the company than achieving a higher sales volume. “Our focus is to create awareness among customers about the distinctive body of the vehicle.”

In Oman, he said, the OTE group has been working hard to create awareness among the customers about the company’s core values.
