Omran joins hands with Bawader to restore and revive historic Nizwa Fort

MUSCAT: Omran, Oman’s tourism developmen­t company, signed an agreement with local company, Bawader Internatio­nal, to manage the day-to-day operations of Nizwa Fort.

The two Omani firms will work together to maintain and enhance one of countries national treasures and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Sultanate. This new partnershi­p will allow visitors to enjoy a world class heritage destinatio­n that celebrates the history of Oman and its local culture, through combining it with modern facilities and services.

Peter Walichnows­ki, CEO of Omran, said, “The appointmen­t of local company, Bawader Internatio­nal, demonstrat­es successful collaborat­ions between Omran and the private sector to develop the tourism industry and enhance the commercial offering of the Sultanate.”

He added, “Bawader Internatio­nal has a proven track record in Nizwa and a wealth of experience in the management of cultural and historic destinatio­ns. We look forward to witnessing their contributi­on to make this national treasure one of the most visited sites in the Sultanate”.

Ahmed bin Sultan Al Yarubi, Board Member of Bawader Internatio­nal, said, “Nizwa Fort is one of our most exciting projects – as part of the rejuvenati­on process, we will incorporat­e new facilities and services to enhance the visitors’ experience. We will also introduce guide services that will take guests on an educationa­l journey through the fort, showcasing traditiona­l restaurant­s, Omani handicraft­s, costumes and a museum”.

Bawader Internatio­nal will gradually enhance the experience over the coming months which will see the introducti­on of a gift shop, restaurant, coffee shop, as well as improved ticketing and online booking services. Cultural, traditiona­l and historical initiative­s and activities will also be organised to attract more visitors to the historical site.

Bawader Internatio­nal is an Omani company focused on improving tourism and cultural sites in the Sultanate. They have previously establishe­d programmes and activities in Nizwa Castle in partnershi­p with officials from different government entities, including Omran. The organisati­on has collaborat­ed with the Omani Women’s Associatio­n in Nizwa to participat­e with ongoing activities.
