-

MUSCAT: With rain playing the spoil sport, Oman’s quest for a place in the U-19 Asia Cup ended in a semifinal defeat to Kuwait in the ongoing ACC U-19 Western Region Tournament in Malaysia on Monday.

The defeat dashed Oman’s hopes of advancing to the elite tourna- ment as only the winners of the Western Region Tournament were assured of a place the Asia Cup.

In a rain-affected match, Oman captain Wasim Ali’s all-round show went in vain as Kuwait defeated the Sultanate’s squad by 17 runs in D/L method.

After winning the toss and elect- ing to bat first, Kuwait were restricted to 150 all out in 49.2 overs thanks mainly to a four-wicket haul by Wasim Ali.

The Omani skipper was supported well by Sanin Nisar who grabbed three wickets.

Oman’s chase was interrupted by rain and when the play resumed the Sultanate squad found it difficult to adjust to the conditions. Though Vivek Shreeraman with a top-score of 38 and Wasim Ali with a patient 26 tried to steady the ship, Oman were eventually bowled out for 124 in 42.4 overs. Full story @ timesofoman.com/sports
