Double delight for Manvi at ISC Open
MUSCAT: Talented teenager Manvi Sarawanan claimed a double crown at the ongoing Villerroy & Boch +Hansgrohe Open Table Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC) when she not only claimed the girls under-13 singles title but added the women’s singles to her collection.
Manvi dominated the proceedings in the girls under-13 singles final against Ishita Sharma and put in a brilliant all-round display to claim the title with an impressive straight-games 11-7, 11-3, 118, 11-6 victory.
Manvi displayed sound temperament and fighting qualities in the women’s singles final when she clawed back from two games down to overwhelm Aania Adap with a hard-fought 6-11, 10-12, 11-8, 10-12, 13-11, 13-11, 12-10 victory. With two games up and looking good, Aania looked on course before Manvi pulled back the third game.
Aania Adap went all out and won a narrow fourth game for a 3-1 lead in the best-of-sevengames clash.
Fortunes fluctuated in the fifth and sixth games which Manvi held on to win to take the match to the decider.
Aania put Manvi under pressure as scores went neck-andneck before the cliffhanger came to an end with Manvi winning the match for a double crown.
