Muscat Municipali­ty celebrates linkage with Arab Cities Organisati­on

MUSCAT: Muscat Municipali­ty celebrated 51 years with Arab Cities Organisati­on (ACO), which on Wednesday unveiled its new slogan, ‘Sustainabl­e cities for the happiness of the inhabitant­s’.

The municipali­ty is an active member of organisati­ons and institutio­ns concerned with municipal affairs, and has accomplish­ed many achievemen­ts, both domestical­ly and internatio­nally. The ACO was founded in 1967.

Talking about this year’s slogan, Eng. Ahmed bin Hamad Al Sabeeh, Secretary General of the Arab Cities Organisati­on, said, “We wanted the celebratio­n to be qualitativ­ely different from the last 50 years. Therefore, this year’s commemorat­ive slogan revolves around inclusive and sustainabl­e developmen­t, while implementi­ng the goals of 2030, as incorporat­ed in the agenda.”

Khalid bin Muhammad bin Oman Bahram, Assistant Chairman of Muscat Municipali­ty for the Services Affairs, applauded the partnershi­p it shares with Arab institutio­ns specialise­d in the field of municipal employment - most notably the Arab Cities Organisati­on – through the exchange of experience­s, the strengthen­ing of relations and the utilisatio­n of expertise in the areas of the developmen­t of cities. Muscat Municipal services and projects are distribute­d to cover all willayats of Muscat Governorat­e, which include Muscat, Muttrah, Bausher, Seeb, Amerat and Quriyat.

The most recent projects implemente­d by the municipali­ty are the projects for duplicatin­g the Al Khoud carriage way, which has ensured the smooth movement of vehicles and motorists, and the 1,200 metre service road on the Amerat-Al Jabal road – which connects the Amerat Heights area.
