With the start of the commercial operation of the new Muscat International Airport, Oman Airports have announced new parking fees. According to Oman Airports, “8,000 parking slots, including short and long-term staying, are available at the new passenger terminal at Muscat Int’l Airport.” At the new airport, the price for half an hour will be 0.500 Bz, while parking for 30min to one hour, and one to two hours, will cost OMR2 and OMR3, respectively. At the old airport, users were charged 0.500Bz for the first hour, and an additional 500 Bz every additional hour. In addition to these charges, individuals parked in the short stay parking will have to pay an additional OMR 20 daily after 24 hours. While after the third day of the long-term parking, an additional OMR5 will be added daily.

The increase in the cost of longterm parking has received mixed responses. Maryam, an expat living in Oman said:” I was shocked and surprised by the rise in prices of the long-term parking. As I regularly travel, I usually park my car at the airport. This new rate will definitely be heavy in my wallet.”
