MUSCAT: The second Dutch Food Week started yesterday at Carrefour Muscat City Centre.
The event, organised by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, provides a great opportunity to discover and enjoy good, healthy Dutch food and products. The Embassy has invited Jasper Udink Ten Cate, a renowned Master Chef from the Netherlands, for the Dutch Food Week.
Shoppers and visitors have the opportunity to experience food tasting and sampling from the Dutch succulent delicacies whilst enjoying the live cooking show and storytelling by the renowned Master Chef today.
Yesterday, while cooking, the Dutch Master Chef talked about the 17th century inspired cooking, that tells the stories of Dutch trade and the taste of that food.
During the live cooking show today, the Dutch Master Chef will discuss the creative art in his food. He will create big paintings on baking paper with all kinds of colours. Once such a painting is finished, everyone will be able to eat from it.
The opening ceremony of the Dutch Food Week took place in the presence of high officials from the embassy, the management of Carrefour as well as Majid Al Futtaim. Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Bart Beltman, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Sultanate of Oman, highlighted the love both the Omani and the Dutch share for food.
“Omani and Dutch people share many things, including their love for good, tasty and healthy food. Every day, we as Dutch guests here in Oman have the opportunity to enjoy the Omani cuisine. During this Dutch Food Week, I am honoured and pleased that we can offer the same hospitality we experience here by introducing the Dutch cuisine to Oman. I am inviting everyone to make use of the opportunity, and to enjoy it.”
In his speech, Beltman also addressed the close link between water, energy and food: “Many people know the Netherlands from its historic windmills – a centuriesold solution for water management and grinding grain. Using such innovative and sustainable techniques have not only prevented our country from being flooded. It also contributed to becoming the world’s 2nd largest exporter of agricultural food products. The Netherlands is more and more regarded as a world-class culinary destination for the foodie. Did you know that the Netherlands hosts 100 restaurants with 1, 2 or 3 Michelin stars?.”
