Alawi in China to boost ties

BEI­JING: Yousuf bin Alawi bin Ab­dul­lah, Min­is­ter Re­spon­si­ble for For­eign Af­fairs, ac­com­pa­nied by a high-rank­ing del­e­ga­tion com­pris­ing se­nior Omani of­fi­cials, is pay­ing an of­fi­cial visit to the Peo­ple’s Re­pub­lic of China.

The del­e­ga­tion vis­ited a num­ber of ma­jor Chi­nese eco­nomic and fi­nan­cial in­sti­tu­tions, such as China Bank, CITIC Bank In­ter­na­tional and China Cham­ber of In­ter­na­tional Com­merce.

Dur­ing the visit, bin Alawi will meet with his Chi­nese coun­ter­part as they will hold cor­dial talks to en­hance and pro­mote the joint re­la­tions be­tween the Sul­tanate and China.

The two sides will also sign a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing (MoU) be­tween the Sul­tanate’s Govern­ment and the Chi­nese Govern­ment deal­ing with co­op­er­a­tion within the frame­work of the Silk Road Eco­nomic Belt (One Belt One Road Ini­tia­tive), the 21st cen­tury Mar­itime Silk Road.

The visit comes within the frame­work of the his­toric re­la­tions bind­ing Oman and China, as it stems from the com­mon de­sire of the two coun­tries to en­hance ar­eas of co­op­er­a­tion and con­sul­ta­tion, as well as to de­velop hori­zons of eco­nomic, trade and in­vest­ment part­ner­ship be­tween the two coun­tries.
