Oman, China sign MoU for Silk Road ini­tia­tive

Oman and China signed a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing (MoU) for the Silk Road Eco­nomic Belt (One Belt One Road Ini­tia­tive), the 21st cen­tury Mar­itime Silk Road.

Yousuf bin Alawi bin Ab­dul­lah, Min­is­ter Re­spon­si­ble for For­eign Af­fairs met with Wang Yi, Min­is­ter of For­eign Af­fairs of China, within the frame­work of his cur­rent of­fi­cial visit to China.

Bin Alawi con­veyed greet­ings of His Majesty Sul­tan Qa­boos bin Said to Pres­i­dent Xi Jin­ping of China. The Chi­nese Min­is­ter of For­eign Af­fairs asked bin Alawi to con­vey the greet­ings and best wishes of the Chi­nese Pres­i­dent to His Majesty the Sul­tan.

The two sides dis­cussed means of en­hanc­ing bi­lat­eral re­la­tions as well as pro­mot­ing co­op­er­a­tion in eco­nomic, trade and in­vest­ment fields be­tween the two coun­tries.

Bin Alawi met with the Vi­cePres­i­dent of the Cen­tral Bank of China, the Ex­ec­u­tive Direc­tor of the China De­vel­op­ment Bank, China Bank­ing Reg­u­la­tory Com­mis­sion and China Ex­port and Credit In­sur­ance Com­pany. The two sides dis­cussed means of fi­nan­cial and in­vest­ment co­op­er­a­tion among the eco­nomic and fi­nan­cial in­sti­tu­tions in both the coun­tries.

The bi­lat­eral re­la­tions be­tween the Sul­tanate and China are wit­ness­ing a rapid de­vel­op­ment in var­i­ous fields. On May 25, 2018, the two coun­tries will mark the 40th an­niver­sary of es­tab­lish­ing the diplo­matic re­la­tions be­tween the Sul­tanate and China.

The meet­ings were at­tended by Sul­tan bin Salim Al Habsi, Deputy Chair­man of the Board of Gov­er­nors of the Cen­tral Bank of Oman (CBO), Ab­dul Salam Mo­hammed Al Mur­shidi, CEO of the State Gen­eral Re­serve Fund (SGRF), Tahir bin Salim Al Amri, Ex­ec­u­tive Pres­i­dent of the CBO and Sheikh Ab­dul­lah bin Saleh Al Sa’adi, Am­bas­sador of the Sul­tanate to China.
