Two more liver trans­plants at Royal Hospi­tal

MUS­CAT: Royal Hospi­tal has once again suc­ceeded in car­ry­ing out liver trans­plants for two peo­ple who had cir­rho­sis of the liver, ac­cord­ing to the Oman Min­istry of Health.

Dr. Mo­hammed Rila per­formed the liver trans­plants as­sisted by Dr. Na­dia Al Harthy, con­sul­tant for liver and di­ges­tive dis­eases, and Dr. Su­laiman Al Maa­mari, con­sul­tant, liver surgery.

One of the donors, Rawya Al Alawi, said: “My ini­tia­tive to donate a por­tion of my liver to my sis­ter is to put an end to her suf­fer­ing of many years, and comes from my ab­so­lute be­lief in the abil­ity of the Royal Hospi­tal to per­form liver trans­plan­ta­tion with high skill.”

She added that the hospi­tal had med­i­cal staff with high com­pe­tence and that its liver trans­plant op­er­a­tions had a 100 per cent suc­cess rate.

Her sis­ter and the re­cip­i­ent, Huda, praised the tire­less ef­forts of the staff at Royal Hospi­tal, say­ing, “Liver trans­plan­ta­tion has ended my suf­fer­ing of eight years. Dur­ing this pe­riod, I ex­pe­ri­enced re­peated de­te­ri­o­ra­tion in my health and phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity.”
