MGS celebrates Gujarat Day

-

MUSCAT: Muscat Gujarati Samaj (MGS), the Gujarati Wing of Indian Social Club, recently organised a 'Hasya Darbar' event (laughter ensemble) for all its members to celebrate the occasion of the 58th Foundation Day of formation of the state of Gujarat.

In India, Gujarat Day is traditionally celebrated on May 1 every year and marks the foundation day for the state of Gujarat. It was on this day in 1960 that the erstwhile state of Bombay was divided on linguistic basis and two states namely Gujarat and Maharashtra came into existence. Often called as ‘Jewel of Western India’, Gujarat has been on the global map since ancient times and thrives in its business acumen event today.

To mark the momentous occasion of the 58th Gujarat Day, MGS had flown in a famous trio of poet’s expert in humour and satire, namely Shahbuddin Rathod, Dr Jagdish Trivedi and Dhirubhai Sarwaiya. The trio took the audience into splits of laughter for more than three hours, aptly suiting the title of event Triputino No HasyaTarkhat, meaning Laughter Riot by the Trinity.

Each of the poet artists had a unique style of his own and it was indeed very creative to watch them derive humour from simple and real-life situations and how easily they were converting the humour intro proses and narrating the same to the audience, with a subtle message. It was indeed an amazing event, which for the first time witnessed, three adept artists of this stature converge on a single stage, each one being more powerful in narration than the other.

The audience was left spellbound and literally glued to the edge of their seats, bursting into splits of laughter every now on then. The three artists coordinated very well amongst themselves and sequenced their presentations in such a seamless way that it was difficult for the audience to judge as to which of the artist was in his peak form on that day. Everyone from the age group of youngsters to senior citizens in the audience enjoyed the evening thoroughly and went back with fond humorous memories of the evening. The hall remained jam-packed throughout the event and towards the end; all the artists received a standing ovation from the audience.

Anil Khimji, Kiran Asher, Kishor Vadher and Shabir Boriyawala and Yusuf Nalwala attended the occasion of the 58th Gujarat Day celebrations. These stalwarts from the business community lauded the efforts of the Muscat Gujarati Samaj towards presenting such delectable cultural events enthralling the audience and bringing them closer to their cultural and social roots.
