SQU signs research deal with UNPF

-

MUSCAT: On Wednesday, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) signed a research contract with a delegation of the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) regional bureau for the GCC States.

The contract is for ‘Comparative Study Between Convention on the Elimination of All Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and Omani Legislations’.

The study comes in response to a request by the Woman Affairs Department at the Directorate General of Family Development to conduct a comparative study of CEDAW and national legislation. Dr. Rashid Al Balushi, a national expert, will carry out the study.

The study aims at activating the final remarks on the 2nd and 3rd national reports on Convention on the Elimination of All Discrimination Against Women, revising the national laws and legislation to ensure that they are consistent with the agreement.

The expert will revise the articles of the convention and compare them to similar texts in the national laws and legislations. He will shed light on the areas that are not in line with the articles of the Convention.

Expected to launch soon

The expert, who is expected to launch the study, during the Omani Woman Day 2018, will provide solutions to address these areas.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Rahmah bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqiyah, Deputy Chairman for Post Graduate Studies and Scientific Research and Aser Toson, the resident representative of the United National Population Fund (UNPF), the regional bureau for the GCC States.
