Foreign Minister discusses bilateral, regional affairs with several global leaders
NEW YORK: Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, the Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs held discussions with his counterparts from several countries on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.
This came as part of the permanent keenness of the Sultanate to deepen its political ties with these countries and the continuous efforts for international security and peace.
The Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs held discussions with Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres on the latest developments in the region especially the political and humanitarian situation in Yemen.
The two sides agreed on the necessity to find a peaceful solution to the Yemeni political crisis which has left behind many humanitarian disasters.
The role played by the United Nations and efforts exerted by UN Envoy Martin Griffiths for a political solution to the crisis were also diccussed.
He also met at the headquarters of Oman Mission at New York the Secretary General of GCC States Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani.
During the meeting, cooperation and efforts exerted for bridging the gap and achieving the aspirations of the people of the GCC for prosperity, security and settlement were discussed.
The Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs held an official discussion with Ri Yong-ho, Foreign Minister of North Korea and discussed the latest developments and progress for peace, security and settlement made withing the efforts of the US and the UN.

He also met Timothy A Lenderking,US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Arabian Gulf Affairs and discussed the latest developments in the Gulf region, especially Yemen and the mechanism of strengthening cooperation to achieve peace and mitigate the agony of Yemeni people.
During the meeting, US official thanked the Sultanate for its positive and effective role made in this aspect.
He also held bilateral discussions with Elmar Mammadyarov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Behgjet Pacolli, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo and discussed the means of developing the common political, economical and cultural relationship between the Sultanate and the two countries.
He met Walid Muallem Syrian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and discussed the latest developments in Syria.
At the headquarters of Oman Mission at the UN, he met the coordinator of the United Nations for Peace Process in the Middle East and the Special Envoy of the Secretary General of Palestine Authority Nikolay Mladenov.
During the meeting, latest developments in Palestine were reviewed and emphasised on the necessity of reopening negotiations to achieve the solution of two states.
Also the efforts of the Sultanate and GCC states to secure humanitarian assistances to mitigate the agony of Palestinian people were discussed.
He also met Terje Rød-Larsen the President of International Peace Institute, who during the meeting, hailed the natural role of the Sultanate and its balanced policies in dealing with Middle East crisis.
