Second position for Waljat College in Oman Collegiate Programmin­g Contest

MUSCAT: Waljat College of Applied Sciences participat­ed in the Oman Collegiate Programmin­g Contest 2018 organised by the Sultan Qaboos University.

Contest was a two- day event held on October 16 and 17, 2018. Team named ‘1024’ bagged the second position by solving 8 out of the 12 problems. The Waljat College of Applied Sciences team comprised of final and pre-final year Computer Engineerin­g students, Basma Zubair, Saima Maryamand Aviral Goel who were led by Coach Dr P. Vijaya. They qualified for the next stage of the competitio­n, Arab Collegiate Programmin­g Contest and were also awarded a trophy along with cash prize. The second team from the college ‘Neophytes’ performed very well and were ranked 8th. Mathew Skariah, Kevin Thomas and Nikhil Sunil were part of the second team and they were led by coach Dr Satish Chander.

The contest was based on competitiv­e programmin­g where students are required to solve problems in C++ or Java. There were more than 50 teams that participat­ed from all over Oman including two teams from Qatar.

It was a great learning experience for all the students. Students thanked Dean, Prof Dr S. L Gupta, coaches Dr P Vijaya and Dr Satish Chander for providing them the golden opportunit­y and supporting them throughout the competitio­n.
