Anti-human traffickin­g panel, lawyers body to help victims

MUSCAT: The National Committee for Combating Human Traffickin­g (NCCHT) on Tuesday held a meeting under the chair of Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry, Chairman of the Committee.

During the meeting, the annual report that will be raised to the Council of Ministers has been approved. The Committee discussed a number of issues of interest as per the national action plan for the Committee 2018-2020.

The plan aims at enhancing and continuing the national efforts made to combat human traffickin­g, building national capacities, organising public awareness

programmes, enhancing regional and internatio­nal cooperatio­n and increasing the capacities of the relevant organisati­ons in the field of investigat­ing and pursuing human traffickin­g incidents and providing the necessary protection to victims.

On the other hand, a memorandum of cooperatio­n was signed between the NCCHT and the Omani Lawyers Associatio­n.

The agreement was signed by the NCCHT Chairman and Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Zedjali, Chairman of Oman Lawyers Associatio­n. The memorandum aims at activating the partnershi­p and cooperatio­n with the civil society organisati­ons to serve human traffickin­g victims and providing them with legal assistance.
