1,000 take part in youth skills programme

MUSCAT: The National Youth Programme for Skills Developmen­t (NYPSD) achieved the developmen­t initiative­s promoted by the Diwan of Royal Court through different national programmes that target public, private sectors and youths in general.

This was stated by Dr. Ali bin Qassim Jawad Al Lawati, Advisor of Studies and Research at the Diwan of Royal Court, Head of the NYPSD during a press conference held at Al Wahat Club in Muscat on Wednesday. He pointed out that the number of participan­ts at the programme now stands at 1,000 Omani youths.

The participan­ts received learning through Udacity Internatio­nal virtual learning platform. The learning enhances the participan­ts’ skills and knowledge with relation to the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) applicatio­ns.

The participan­ts have to provide ideas for technology based projects that can be turned into emerging projects or technology­based ventures. The Programme received more than 600 good ideas for future emerging projects. He noted that the participan­t will receive lectures and workshops to develop their ideas. They will present their ideas before arbitrator­s and assessors. One hundred ideas will qualify to join the second stage of the programme.

“The success rate of participan­ts to get Nano-degree (the first stage of the programme) stood at 74 per cent,” he added.

“The technology idea race for Oman youth, which will start next Friday, includes intensifie­d sessions by Google on developing ideas. There will be another session on the business model. The session will discuss the project mechanism and how to create added value either in service or in the product.
