Gaiety, fervour mark ISM Annual Sports Day

-

MUSCAT: Stars twinkling in daylight, torches shining in the sun, little gems marching with synchronised steps, prominent sports personalities presiding over and pigeons spreading the message of peace -all of these and more were part of the Annual Sports Day of the Primary Section (standards 3 and 4) of Indian School Muscat (ISM) which was held recently on the school premises.

Hiba Al Nabi, a champion Basketball player and Captain of Oman Women’s National Basketball Team was the chief guest; and Jatinder Singh, a premier member of Oman National Cricket Team was the guest of honour.

The occasion also saw the august presence of Ajay Kummar J, President of Indian School Muscat School Management Committee, Dr Rajeev Kumar Chauhan, Principal of Indian School Muscat and other dignitaries and officials of the school. Parents and grandparents were also present to cheer and encourage the budding sports men. Aleena Thomas, Head Girl, was gracious in welcoming the guests and attendees in her welcome speech. What followed was nothing less than a parade, as the kids displayed tremendous discipline in their march past. Synchronisation at its best!

The afternoon was lit up by the torch run that followed, after which the chief guest declared the meet open and conveyed her best wishes for the success of the programme. The most-awaited segment, the athletics meet, was a true demonstration of grit and determination, as the students vied with each other for the top spots in each category. What was most heartening was the element of fun that the children brought to each activity, reaffirming the saying that participation is more important than winning.
